The third season of Project Runway All Stars
premieres tonight on Lifetime—and you'll never guess which '80s TV star is about
to take the reins as host!
Yes, that's right—Alyssa Milano! We loved her in Who's the Boss when we were
growing up, and we can't wait to see her host this season's fashion-reality
competition featuring some of our favorite Project Runway alums.
If you, like us, are wondering what Milano's connection is to the fashion world,
then, well, you're not alone.
"It's one of my favorite shows," Milano told USA Today. "I've been a fan of the
show since the very first season. I also have a clothing line, so that made
sense to me."
The actress also dished on the upcoming season—and what it's like to work on a
reality show when nearly her entire career has been based in scripted
television. Here are some of our favorite bits from her interview.
On whether or not reality TV is staged—or really real. "I think the most
surprising thing overall about doing the show is you hear so much about reality
TV being staged. I think my experience could not have been further from that.
The emotion is so raw and these people, you know, their dreams depend on this 10
weeks of competition. So, you can see, you can feel the stress level of them.
It's as real as it possibly gets. I think that is the thing that was most
surprising for me. This is their life."
Oh, and who were her favorite guest judges this season? "Gaby [Sidibe]
was definitely my favorite. She was just the kind of girl that I wanted to spend
a night out in Manhattan with; just a cool, funny chick. I also had a great time
with Kristin Chenoweth. We had a lot of great fashion industry people too, like
Elie Tahari. He's spectacular, and he's such a lovely, lovely man. Nina Garcia
was so fun. She is so good at her job, and to sit on a panel with her was really
great."
On the delicate balance between praise and criticism—as dished out by
judges Isaac Mizrahi and Georgina Chapman. "Those two are so good at giving sort
of the backhanded compliment! They start out every critique by saying something
that's so incredibly lovely—and true—and then they just slam you! He'll say
something like, 'The top is absolutely atrocious, and it doesn't go with the
bottoms at all, but I can't believe the work that you put into it!' Just to see
that, I learned a lot from them."
We're so excited to see tonight's third season premiere of Project Runway All
Stars! Will you be tuning in?
